Behind on Blogging - Summer of Kite Flying Fun!

We have been so busy having Kite Flying Fun... I have neglected my blog ~ (I have been attending to Face Book... so you can see what we have been up to there).

At home: we fly every evening we have a wisp of air moving. There is nothing like coming home from work & stepping out the back door kite in hand.

Since our maiden voyage into kite festivals (Castles & Kites, Bodega Bay), we have been to 2 festivals and have will be attending another this week.

Summer of Kite Flying Fun

  • 1 week at Doran Beach ... flying, flying , flying ( I love flying at the beach!)
  • 1 week in Oregon... attended SOKF (Southern Oregon Kite Festival/Brookings Harbor)
  • 1 weekend in Berkeley... attending BKF (Berkeley Kite Festival)
  • 1 day flying workshop in Berkeley, given by BASKL (Bay Area Sports Kite League)
  • ... coming up Antelope Island Stampede, Utah

Monday Night Flying

Wala & Laima Floating Over Wilton
As I drove up the drive this evening I immediately noticed the park-like look and smell of our fields. My Sweetie had been hard at work mowing about 4 acres of fields today. There is nothing like freshly mown grass. I quickly changed shoes, grabbed the Wala, and rushed out the backdoor. I was soon joined by my hard working man with his new Laima in hand.

We flew until dark. Right at dusk... a small bat even ran right into my 30# line. So much for echo location.

We were both rewarded with a perfectly, beautiful evening of light wind flying.
"It doesn't get much better than this."

Saturday, Waiting for Air

Waiting for Air

Two Canards in a Chair: Waiting for Air

Two Canards in a Chair
Waiting for air

More breeze, if you please
This little is a tease

In the air we have flair
But, in the chair less than debonair

Off to the sky
We yearn, just to fly

All it will take, is a wee little lift
To set us a drift

Flying up to the sky
The sun bursting to spy

Soon we will be, two heavenly kites
Soaring off to great heights

Worth the Wait: Our Canards in the Air!

Addicted to Kites

14 months ago, while celebrating our wedding anniversary in Bodega Bay, I bought my husband a kite. We zoomed off to fly it in 20-25 mph beach winds. He was hooked instantly. The brown truck began a familiar trek in and out of our driveway. My Sweetie was quickly on a first name basis with the driver. I now anticipate the view in the skies behind our house while making my way up the dirt drive after a day of work. Did that famous brown delivery truck come today... or will I see a tried and true flyer in the sky?
